Hatchet 3 is the Hatchet's horror film of 2013. It chronicles Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as in addition to his violent murderous rampage. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.



The movie's special effects are its greatest strengths. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical and sets. This is a departure from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.

Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast and is a formidable villain. The dialogue is sufficiently campy and tongue-in-cheek for it to feel like a true '80s slasher movie at (blog post) times. There are also some hilarious moments that stand out against all the gut-wrenching scenes.

Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly just $1 million) most of the locations are repeats from previous films in the series--the same boat house was featured twice in the film and a lot of the film appears to be a re-use from previous films in the series. Hatchet or Hatchet II may find it familiar, and this can lead to the movie feeling too familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was a excellent series overall. There were plenty of gory thrills, and there were several great performances by the actors.
